Matthew Perry Was a Horrible Person
Stop pretending he was a great person now that he's dead
With the untimely death of ‘Friends’ actor Matthew Perry, fake news and social propaganda is drowning in ‘heartfelt’ soulless press release tributes to this legendary actor person. Why?
Matthew Perry was a terrible actor and human being. The first point shouldn’t, normally, be a means by which to judge someones existence. So he’s horrifically untalented, not everyone can be the best. If he accepted that, continued getting cast and used the money for good, it wouldn’t be an issue.
He didn’t. Perry hoarded his unearnt money, living a degenerate lavish lifestyle while crying the victim. It’s not his fault he was an alcoholic living in a fantasy world, it’s society which made him that way. No, it’s him. He would have stopped the drinking and drugs if he wanted to. He didn’t want to.
The garbage TV show ‘Friends’ was the sole reason Perry had any notoriety. He also ‘starred’ in some terrible movies like ‘The Whole Nine Yards’ (2000) and was cast in many more TV shows, though not because he was talented. He had a familiar face. The name alone will draw viewers in, then Perry can be relegated to a support role while the real actors carry the show.
Was ‘Friends’ great? Absolutely not. It was unwatchable in the 90’s and retains that prestige today. ‘Friends’ was a perfect example of social engineering through shared laughter, also known as contagious laughter but that sounds childish to me!
Here’s an article on shared laughter, it’s not great but it conveys the point
If you’ve ever laughed during an episode of ‘Friends’, think back to what it is that triggered you. Why was that funny? I can almost guarantee there was nothing funny about the situation. Why did you laugh?
Canned laughter has always been used in TV shows aimed at simpletons. The process has fallen out of favour in the last decade, but is still used for sketch shows aimed at idiots. That’s right, you.
A laugh track isn’t needed in a comedic situation. The setup and punchline should be enough to trigger a response in viewers. Canned laughter uses the concept of shared laughter to subconsciously force viewers in to laughing at something which isn’t funny.
There are plenty of examples of ‘Friends’ episodes where the laugh track has been removed. I can’t even force out half a smile sitting through this drivel...
Studio audiences laugh because there’s a sign telling them to. They’re basically unpaid support actors. Supplement this with canned laughter in the studio, then the sad person watching at home laughs along as well. Not because they want to, it’s part of our DNA. We laugh in unfunny group situations to show acceptance or to be accepted.
This illusion of talent becomes a problem when the actors aren’t smart enough to understand the manipulation taking place. That applies to the entire ‘Friends’ cast. No, I retract that. Matt LeBlanc seems like a really nice guy and he’s an alright actor.
LeBlanc did a decent job as the lead for ‘Lost in Space’ (1998) but he never seemed to find his groove. He doesn’t have an identifiable persona beyond bumbling idiot and that gets tiresome. Especially when he doesn’t look like one. LeBlanc looks like a generic guy. Maybe he doesn’t appear in more roles because he doesn’t need to? Anyway, back on topic!
Perry thought he was a genius that invented sarcasm…
The audacity of this delusional hack to think he’s an innovator, that he contributed anything beyond a lack of dignity is infuriating. Perry was a familiar face in a TV show that was only popular due to its psychological manipulation and pandering to idiots.
Meanwhile… Keanu Reeves is the nicest and most honest guy in Hollywood. Which is why he was blacklisted for many years, but that’s another story. I detest Joe Rogan, but this was one of the first examples to appear that didn’t have some dent head rambling about nothing for 15 minutes before showing the footage…
How did Perry think attacking the nicest guy in Hollywood would go? Drugs and alcohol don’t make someone bad, they set free the person’s true personality…
Of course Perry retracted the comments and cope cope cope. Career over honesty and what not. That’s who he was. A failed comedian, actor, human, without the fortitude to back up his own statements.
Why is he being glorified as a bastion of the industry? ‘Heartfelt’ messages are pouring in from all over the globe in memory of… what? Canned laughter? Being present and reading a script? Anyone could have played his role in ‘Friends’. Literally anyone. Probably had a meaningful career after too!
Around 300,000 people die every day. Truck drivers, farmers, people who create laugh tracks. Nearly every one of them contributed far more than to society, the world, than Perry. Where are their ‘heartfelt’ condolences written by a press release team and copied to social propaganda platforms without even a proof read.
Oh, they didn’t stand in front of a camera for a few hours a day, being dressed by someone else, reading off a script and accumulating an unearnt wealth of $120,000,000. Because money is the only gauge of a life well lived.
Maybe Perry attacked Reeves because he was jealous of the talent? Somewhat understandable, still uncalled for. Or was it because he was a horrible, entitled, Hollywood brat who craved attention?
Louis C.K. can testify as to the real character behind Chandler Bing…
A man with $120,000,000 who tries to stop someone else tipping a bartender $20. That’s Matthew Perry.
Chandler Bing was a character in a TV show. He’s not real. Disassociate fiction from reality and understand that Bing was not Perry. It’s called ‘acting’; pretending to be someone you’re not.
Given how annoying and unlikable Bing was, Perry didn’t have to put in much effort to pass auditions. All he had to do was hide the anger, drug addiction and alcoholism for a few hours a day. Apparently he was quite the belligerent drunk when the cameras stopped rolling.
These are just the stories which came to mind when I heard of Perry’s passing. I imagine there are far worse stories locked behind closed doors, brushed under the rug, selectively forgotten because a person with Perry’s connections can give you a leg over up in the industry.
Instead of memorialising this failed actor, failed comedian, pompous, self-righteous, alcoholic, drug addict, failed person, take a few seconds to remember better people we’ve lost in the last couple of years.
